This is Day 6 in our Zero to Launch in 27 Days series. Yesterday, we helped you formulate a one-page business plan for your business.
Your website should make it as easy as possible for your customers to book your services online!
NOT to have clients call for long conversations that might lead to nowhere.
NOT to have to respond to quote requests, where we compete on price. And certainly,
NOT to drive to someone’s home not knowing if we’ll even get the job.
Nope, nope, and nope!
Simple instant checkout is what we aim for.
Unfortunately for some industries, a business model that is based on high-touch communication falls apart in an era of instant gratification.
Taxis and Travel Agencies
There are fancy words to describe what is happening with Uber (vs taxis), and travelocity (vs travel agencies), and Handy (vs traditional maid companies), and what will continue to happen from industry to industry.
It really boils down to this: Convenience wins.
And young startup companies that understand how to deliver instant checkout and convenience online, will continue to win.
Local service companies by and large have not realized what is happening, so there are huge competitive advantages just waiting to be exploited.
And that’s why we’re here!
The paradigm shift
This is pretty straightforward stuff but it needs to be said:
The more people get used to shopping online and enjoying the instant gratification that the internet brings, the less they will be drawn to companies that don’t offer this convenience.
If we can get online and get a dress overnight on Amazon, we also want to be able to get online and get our lawns cut the next day!
And that’s why we build businesses the way we do.

No hoops. This is the future, and unfortunately most of the competition is too resistant to change to see this. And that’s the reason we’re able to launch and grow these companies remarkably quickly!
So all we need to do is build our site, plug in the online booking system from Launch27, which we use for all of our local businesses, and we’re good to go.
Resist the urge to complicate things
So at this point, you’re probably thinking, “Wow, such a simple hourly service for lawncare”, wonder if this can be improved?
Chances are, yes it can. But remember, the simpler you keep the customer experience, the faster we’re going to be able to build a big company and find time to do the things we really love.
Resist the urge to complicate things at all cost.
For technical folks, it seems like the inclination to complicate things is overwhelming.
So a problem like “find people that need lawn service and connect them with people that provide lawn service” becomes,
“well how about we use Zillow’s APi to pull a picture of the lawn, and the customer confirms it by drawing an outline of the area to be serviced and we tie that into Google maps and feed everything into a pricing algorithm”
…. and on and on. Unfortunately, many of these guys do not make it. More often than not simplicity wins.
Get out of the customer’s way, keep it simple, and this can turn out beautifully!
